Library Services for Undergraduate Students
For registered students, KUHES Libraries provide a variety of undergraduate services which are designed to help our undergraduate students to achieve their teaching, learning, and research objectives.
Main Services
01.
VuFind
VuFind is a library resource portal designed and developed for libraries by libraries. The goal of VuFind is to enable your users to search and browse through all your library’s resources by replacing the traditional OPAC to include:
- The Online Public Access Catalogue Records
- Locally Cached Journals
- Digital Library Items
- Institutional Repository
- Institutional Bibliography
- Other Library Collections and Resources
02.
Reference Management Software
The Kamuzu University of Health Sciences Libraries provide assistance with the installation and training of a variety of reference management software. While some software, such as EndNote, is proprietary, the Library encourages the use of open-source software, such as Zotero. However, regardless of the available reference management software, the Library trains users in the use of at least the following: Zotero, Endnote, and Mendeley. To request the services, please use the Ask the Librarian form.
03.
HINARI
Hinari Access to Research for Health Programme provides free or very low cost online access to the major journals in biomedical and related social sciences to local, not-for-profit institutions in developing countries. You can access HINARI by login to the HINARI portal. Remember you need a Username and Password. Request access through the Ask the Librarian link on the website.
04.
Citation and Referencing Style
American Psychological Association (APA) and Vancouver referencing styles are used at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences. The APA session introduces graduate and postgraduate students to the referencing style. The author(s) and the year of publication are given entirely or partially in round brackets in the text citation. To request any of these services, please use the Ask the Librarian form.
06.
Course Reservices
Your lecturers and professors may reserve or recommend textbooks for your course at the library. Most reserves are available for use in the Library for two hours at a time, but some may circulate overnight. Please go to the Short Loans desks and request reserves for your courses.
