E-journals

The Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) Libraries subscribes to about 40 electronic databases through the Malawi Library and Information Consortium (MALICO) and the International Availability of Scientific Publications (INASP). Other contributions are done through the Electronic Information for Libraries (EIFL). The EIFL also offers free access to some of its resources to developing countries such as Malawi. Additionally, the Research4Life, a collective name for four programmes namely: AGORA, ARDI, Hinari, Goali, and OARE provide free or low cost access to over 80,000 peer-reviewed journals and other scholarly literature for academic research .

NB: These e-resources, except the Research4Life databases that have log-in credentials, are IP authenticated, i.e., they can be accessed on the campus local area network. The Library also subscribes to RemoteX, a software that enables registrants to access these e-resources off-campus. Please consult the Library for assistance.

American Institute of Physics journals – AIP publishes 17 journals, three of which are published in partnership with other organizations; magazines, including AIP’s flagship publication Physics Today; and the AIP Conference Proceedings series. Scitation hosts over 2 million articles from more than 200 scholarly publications from 28 learned society publishers. The AIP Thesaurus contains 7,500 terms, and AIP’s disambiguation project mapped multiple name variations for more than 850,000 authors and 23,000 institutions.

American Physical Society  – Access to the journals produced by the American Physical Society and the Physical Review Online

Archive (PROLA). American Society of Agricultural & Biological Engineers (ASABE) – Offers access to publications in engineering applicable to agricultural, food, and biological systems.

American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Journals Online  – Provides access to 38 e-journals on engineering arranged in 36 sub-topics.

Annual Reviews  – Annual Reviews publications operate as a high-quality filter, prioritising and synthesising the primary research literature in disciplines for the biomedical, life, physical and social sciences. The authoritative and comprehensive review articles are written by leading scholars who are dedicated to helping scientists, students and researchers around the world prioritise and navigate the vast amount of primary research literature and data that is available to them. Year after year, Annual Reviews publications earn the highest Impact Factors according to the ISI® Journal Citation Reports (JCR®)

Brill Developing Countries Journals Program  – Brill publishes 200 journal titles, including 16 e-only titles and 6 full open access titles, focused on Humanities and Social Sciences, International Law and selected areas in the Sciences.

British Institute of Radiology Journals  – Access to British Journal of Radiology (BJR), BJR/case reports and Dentomaxillofacial Radiology (DMFR).

CABI Compendia – Provides access to scientific research, datasheets, images, etc.

CABI open books – Gives you access to open access books in agriculture and applied sciences.

Cambridge Journals Online – A multidisciplinary database almost all subject areas.

Canadian Science Publishing (publisher of the NRC Research Press journals) – Full text of 20 online peer-reviewed journals in a broad range of scientific disciplines with back files dating back to 1996 in most cases.

Emerald Management eJournal Collection –  – Emerald’s Management eJournal Portfolio is made up of nine Subject Collections to create an all-encompassing portfolio of titles in the management field: Accounting, Finance & Economics; Business, Management & Strategy; HR, Learning & Organization Studies; Information & Knowledge Management; Marketing; Operations, Logistics & Quality; Public Policy & Environmental Management; Property Management & Built Environment and; Tourism & Marketing Hospitality Management.

Geological Society (The Lyell Collection)  – The Lyell Collection is an electronic resource containing new and archival journal, special publications and book content, published by the Geological Society of London. It contains key peer-reviewed earth science literature of the highest quality.

Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences  – INFORMS (Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences) publishes 14 scholarly journals, including the flagship journals Management Science and Operations Research, our new 2015 journal Strategy Science, Interfaces a journal for the practice of OR/MS, as well as INFORMS Transactions on Education an open access journal.

International Monetary Fund IIMF) Library  – The IMF is viewed as one of the world’s most authoritative sources for economic information, analysis and harmonized statistics. IMF eLibrary provides comprehensive data and original analysis, with coverage of almost every economy in the world and a special focus on developing and emerging economies.

Institute of Physics (IOP) Science  – IOP publishes more than 70 of the world’s most prestigious journals in physics and related sciences. JSTOR (https://www.jstor.org/) – JSTOR is a growing digital library of academic journals, books, and primary source objects. JSTOR helps students, scholars, and other individuals discover, use, and build upon a wide range of content through a powerful research and teaching platform.

Liverpool University Press  – Liverpool University Press (LUP) is the UK’s third oldest university press with a history dating back to 1899. LUP has rapidly expanded in recent years to become an awardwinning academic publisher that produces approximately 75 books a year and 25 journals, specialising in literature, modern languages, history and visual culture. Their journal collection highlights the breadth and scope of journals that compliment each other in history, literature, language, culture studies, religious studies and planning.

Liebert Online  – Founded in 1980, Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. is universally acknowledged for establishing authoritative peer-reviewed journals in the most promising areas of biotechnology, biomedical research/life sciences, clinical medicine and surgery, and law. Liebert Online delivers electronic access to peer-reviewed journals published by Mary Ann Liebert, Inc.

OECD iLibrary  – OECD is the world’s largest think-tank, renowned for its authoritative, internationally comparable statistics, analysis, and outlooks in economics, public policy, social sciences and environmental issues.

Optical Society of America (OSA) Journals  – Offers access to 15 Optics and photonics journals published by OSA, conference papers, and selected OSA meeting content, including Advances in Optics and Photonics (AOP), new in 2009.

Oxford University Press (OUP) Journals & Ebooks  – Access over 300 journals in the Oxford Journals Collection.

Policy Press  – Policy Press publishes nine highly prestigious journals in the fields of public and social policy. Policy Press is a leading specialist social science publisher committed to journals that will have an impact on research, learning, policy and practice at an international level.

Research4Life databases  – Research4Life is the collective name for five programmes (AGORA, ARDI, Goali, Hinari ,and OARE ) that provide developing countries with free or low cost access to academic and professional peer-reviewed content online. Log-in credentials are available from the Library for bona fide CoM staff and students only.

Royal College of Physicians  – Clinical Medicine journal is read by leading physicians in hospitals across the world. It features articles covering original research, current issues, ethics, law, clinical governance and audit, and also reports on prestigious College lectures and conferences.

Royal Society – Royal Society Journals Online  – Offers access to ten leading international journals from the Royal Society, the UK’s national academy of science. Titles cover the whole of the biological and physical sciences, and include Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, the world’s first science journal.

Royal Society of Chemistry – RSC Journals Archive  – The Royal Society of Chemistry is the world’s leading chemistry community, a not-for-profit organization with 170 years of history and a scientific publisher of high-impact journals and books.

Sage Journals  – A portfolio of over 900 journals in the business, humanities, social sciences and science, technology and medicine (STM).

Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics Journals  – The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) is a non-profit international community of over 14,000 individual members. SIAM publishes 16 journals for the applied math and computational science communities, and of these, 5 are ranked in the top 30 of 255 journals in the Mathematics, Applied category in terms of impact factors.

Taylor & Francis Online Journal Library  – Provides access to about 4,100,000 articles covering a broad range of subjects. University of California Press (http://www.ucpressjournals.com/) – Provides access to 33 Journals of the University of California Press in Area Studies, History of Science, Human research and Bioethics, Sociology and Social interaction.

University of Chicago Journals  – The University of Chicago Press publishes nearly fifty scholarly journals, many on behalf of some of the world’s most prestigious societies, and several that were the first scholarly publications in their respective fields. The journals present original research in the social sciences, humanities, education, and biological and physical sciences.
